Dartmouth and World Bank

Dartmouth and World Bank May 18, 2012 A Dartmouth and World Bank rapper! When you think of the World Bank, you probably think of the international financial institution that offers loans to developing nations. Based in Washington, D.C., we imagine you wouldnt think of the leader of the World Bank assomeone who raps. But Jim Yong Kim, the current president of Dartmouth College and the president-elect of the World Bank (he will take office on July 1, 2012), has many talents. At a Dartmouth College talent show dubbed Dartmouth Idol, Jim Kim showed off some of his skills. Were not sure theyre going to come in handy much at the World Bank but its good to know that our world leaders have some personality! The first Asian-American president of an Ivy League university and the co-founder and executive director of Partners In Health mixes it up with some Dartmouth students here: Notice how he urges students not to engage in libation at the very end of the video. So hes even putting out a positive message! We think that Jim Kim will be a great leader of the World Bank. Hes a change agent in this world, someone who takes on the worlds problems as his own (a quote by former Dartmouth College president John Sloan Dickey that Kim often cites to his students). And Ivy Coach salutes him for all of his efforts and achievements! While he only served as Dartmouths president for a short time, he did a wonderful job. The new Dartmouth president will have big shoes to fill as the position is now a stepping stone to high positions of public service to our nation. And, contrary to what some might say, its not bad to be a stepping stone to, say, the presidency of the World Bank!
